DO I NEED TO AUDITION TO JOIN THE CHOIR?

Yes you do. Our audition is very straight forward and will be with our choir leader and our accompanist and usually takes  about 10 minutes. It will include: – a few vocal exercises – some sight reading – singing  a well known jazz standard that we will ask you to prepare in advance.

I HAVE ONLY EVER SUNG IN A CLASSICAL CHOIR BUT I FANCY SINGING JAZZ. WILL I BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP?

Most choir singers who come to us have never been involved in singing jazz properly so don’t have the right techniques initially, but that’s what we are here for…our choir leader is a jazz musician, is classically trained and is a vocal coach so will have you singing in a jazz style before you know it!

I HAVEN’T SUNG IN A CHOIR SINCE I WAS AT SCHOOL

That’s not a problem as long as you are willing to practice at home and attend rehearsals regularly.  It’s a bit like riding a bike. You soon get back into the swing of it.

I DON’T READ MUSIC VERY WELL

That’s all right as long as you have a bit of knowledge that you can build on.
We use sheet music at our rehearsals so at least a basic understanding of how to read music would  be necessary in order for you to cope with our rehearsals.

I LOVE TO SING BUT HAVE NEVER SUNG IN A CHOIR BEFORE

If you have a good voice, a good ear for harmony, can read music a little and are willing to attend very regularly and practice at home, then you should be able to learn the techniques needed to be part of a choir. It is a very satisfying and sociable way to sing!
